GREENSBORO AREA RUTH WAGENFELD ALEXANDER Mrs. Ruth Wagenfeld Alexander of Greensboro died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Wesley Long Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Forbis Dick North Elm Chapel. JOHN ROBERT BURGESS John Robert Burgess, 76, of 2501 Woodview Drive, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at the Veterans Hospital in Durham. A graveside service will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, in Westminster Gardens Mausoleum Chapel.

Mr. Burgess was a native of Guilford County. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service, during World War II. His wife, Myrtle Victoria McCuiston Burgess, preceded him in death.

Vickie B. Whaley of Surviving, are his Reidsville; son, John D. Burdaughter, gess of Kernersville; two sisters, Becky Wright of Greensboro and Rachel Wade of Middlesex; and one brother, Laymon Burgess of Lakeland, Fla. Four grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren also survive. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Tuesday, at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm Chapel. CHARLES ARCHIE COLEMAN Mr. Charles Archie Coleman died Nov. 30, 2002, at the skilled care unit of Friends Home West.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at First Presbyterian Church. He was born in Poole, and moved to Salisbury when he was 12 years old. A long time resident of Greensboro, he was the son of the late Nannie F.

and Earl C. Coleman. Coleman, who was lost at sea during World War II. Surviving are his daughters, Ann Coleman Setzer and husband Bristol of Greensboro, Nancy Coleman Adams and husband Gene of Mooresville; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Davidson College in 1935. He remained close the college and was a member of the Ne Ultra Society. He joined the army and served as Captain in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S.

Army and served as a captain during World War II. He remained in the reserves for a number of years and obtained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. The Jefferson Standard Life Insurance Company employed him for 44 years and when he retired, he was Vice President of the Company. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder and chaired the Memorial Garden and Columbarium committee. As a volunteer with the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program he helped prepare tax returns for many Greensboro dents until his 87th year.

He coordinated volunteers for this program through the Greensboro chapter of the AARP. He was a member of the American Business Club and the Dirty Dozen (a group of friends who met monthly for many years). The family will receive friends after the service in the Virginia Gilmer room at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Greensboro or the First Presbyterian Church. ALBERT HAIRSTON Mr.

Albert Hairston, 69, of Marzella Greensboro, died Nov. 30, 2002, at Moses Cone Hospital. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesda Dec. 4, 2002, at the Chapel of Woodard Funeral Home.

He is survived by his wife, Marzella Hairston of the home; two sons, Andre Grant of Hartford, Conn. and Frankie Hairston of Greensboro; three daughters, Julia Coleman (John), Barbie Hairston and Pauline Nicole Hairston, all of Greensboro; one brother, Edward Lee Hairston, of Greensboro; two sisters, Lucille Hairston of Greensboro and Erline Shoffner of Reidsville; 16 grandchildren; and one great The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2 p.m. at Woodard Funeral Home Chapel. 2, 1933, in Craven County, North Carolina, to Hazel Koonce Harper and the late William Paul Harper Sr. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at Bethany Church of God on Randolph Avenue. Interment will follow in the Veterans Cemetery in Salisbury.

In 1951, he graduated from P.S. Jones High School in Washington, N.C. where he had distinguished himself as a scholar and gentleman, ranking third in his class. The following Fall he entered College in Greensboro. After completing just one year, he interrupted his studies and enlisted in the army.

During his 20-year career, William attained the rank of Sergeant First Class and upon discharge was a decorated veteran. His military service included a combat tour 1 in Korea during the Korean Conflict and two tours in Vietnam. Still an avid learner, returned to where he completed his bachelor's degree in industrial engineering in 1982.
